you're not lazy. your brain just skips one step everyone else makes automatically.

it's called executive function. starting, switching, sequencing, holding the thread. the adhd brain does not reliably produce it, so you freeze on things you actually care about and then hand yourself a character flaw for it. it was never that.

names the state hands you one move no system to remember
i put the fix into a free claude skill. you just talk to it like normal, "i can't start this," "there's too much," and it recognises what's happening and gives you the single next action. no menu, no willpower, no essay.

seven situations. one move each.

these are the seven ways executive function misfires. the skill spots which one you're in and runs it. here's the whole map.

01 · cold start

can't begin

"i can't make myself start."

starting is a separate function from doing, and it's the one that misfires. do the first physical action, not the task. open the file. ten seconds, no decision.

02 · dopamine ledger

too boring to touch

"i keep putting it off."

adhd runs on interest, novelty, urgency, challenge, not importance. bolt one on. worst version, twelve minutes, go. real reward right after.

03 · body double

fine when someone's there

"i'd finish in 20 minutes if someone sat here."

you don't need help, you need a second presence so it stops sliding. the skill holds the thread while you do the one thing.

04 · palate cleanser

stuck between tasks

"i finished one thing and now i'm just sitting here."

the last task is still running and eating the bandwidth for the next. hard close it, out loud, then cold start. two minutes, max.

05 · hyperfixation bridge

deep in it, edge coming

"i'm locked in but i have a call at 4."

hyperfocus is the asset, the drop-off is the tax. stop five minutes early and write the next single action into the file so tomorrow is a loaded cold start.

06 · time audit

time keeps lying

"i thought this would take an hour."

time blindness is real and "estimate better" changes nothing. measure what it actually took last time, use that number, count the invisible setup.

07 · open loop dump

everything at once

"there's too much, i don't know where to begin."

the load isn't the tasks, it's holding them. empty your head onto the page, let the skill sort it, take back one thing. one.

you're in. here it is.

the adhd executive-function skill

download it, drop it into claude, and start talking. the install is two lines. the zip has the skill plus the instructions.

install (2 minutes)

  1. claude desktop / claude.ai: settings → capabilities → skills → upload skill. drop in the folder or the .zip.
  2. claude code: put the folder in ~/.claude/skills/.
  3. done. you don't retype a prompt or remember a system. you just talk.
try it now. open claude and type, exactly: there's too much and i don't know where to start. it should empty your head, sort the pile, and hand you back one thing. if it hands you a list, the skill didn't load.
