claude can do knowledge work from your phone now. here is what to actually hand it.
in july 2026 claude cowork went mobile. the part that matters is not that there is an app. it is that a task you start no longer needs you sitting there for it to finish.
claude cowork lets you hand claude a whole task instead of a single question, and as of july 2026 it runs on ios and android with sessions that keep working when your laptop is closed. the release added remote session storage in beta, so long-running work continues without an active device, files and sessions follow you across phone and desktop, and scheduled tasks run on their own. you can kick something off from your laptop and check it from your phone in line at the store.
that changes the question from "what can ai answer" to "what can i delegate." those are not the same skill, and the second one is where the time actually comes back.
what changed in this release
- it left the desktop. cowork now runs on web, ios, and android, not just on a machine you have to keep awake.
- sessions persist. remote session storage means a long task keeps running in the background, and you can pick it up on another device where you left off.
- it can run on a schedule. scheduled tasks execute automatically, so recurring work does not wait for you to remember it.
- it can act in your tools. the microsoft 365 connector added write access, so claude can draft and send email, manage calendar events, and update files, not just read them.
what to delegate first
the mistake is handing it your hardest, most personal work on day one and deciding it "does not get you." start where the task is repetitive and well-defined and does not need your taste on every line:
- raw notes into a first draft. a voice memo or a page of bullets into a structured draft you then edit. it does the blank-page part, you do the judgment part.
- the messy file into a clean one. a pdf, a spreadsheet export, a wall of text, reshaped into the format you actually use.
- the standard reply. the email you send fifty times with small changes, drafted from the incoming message, ready for you to approve.
- the long thing into the short thing. a summary or a pulled list from a document you do not have time to read end to end.
what to keep for yourself
delegation is not abdication. keep the judgment calls, the final voice pass, and anything you would be embarrassed to send unread. the model is fast and confident, and confident is not the same as correct. the workflow that works is claude drafts, you decide. the moment you stop reading the output is the moment it stops being yours.
the skill that gives you your week back is not prompting. it is knowing exactly which task to hand over, and which one is yours to keep.
